The great songwriter and singer, John Denver, lost his life in 1997 when the plane he was piloting fell from the sky, but the legacy of his multitude of beloved and inspiring contemporary tunes lives on. Denver had his first hit in 1969, performing Peter, Paul and Mary’s Leaving on a Jet Plane, and would soon become a household name. His fourth album, Take Me Home Country Roads, was released in 1971. In 1974, Back Home Again became the best-selling album in the world to date. John Denver soared through the seventies with an incredible string of five Gold and eight Platinum recordings. Denver had a great gift for crossing all musical genres – from country to folk, from the 60s era to ‘Americana’. He dominated the 70’s culture scene on records, television, and in film, memorable in both his blonde, wholesome image and in his sweet, soaring voice. Orchestrated by Ship’s Company Theatre’s Associate Artist, Greg Simm, the band features Simm on guitars, Mike Farrington Sr. on bass, Mike Swinimer on drums, Julia Weir on keyboard, and popular performer David Bradshaw delivering vocals in the Denver style. David Bradshaw possesses an unforgettable voice – his vocal and instrumental talents are among the finest in the Maritimes. He was featured in 2009 and 2010 as an East Coast Music Awards Showcase artist, and was nominated for a Music Nova Scotia Folk Recording of the Year in 2009. Bradshaw’s music, which he calls ‘Folk/Bluegrass/Fusion’ can be heard on his 2009 CD, No Place.
